Niobium is a soft and ductile metal, which makes it a good material for tubes, pipes, and even capillary tubes. Niobium and niobium alloy bars are used as structural materials for aircraft engines and rocket nozzles, reactor internal components and cladding materials, and to make corrosion-resistant parts under conditions of nitric, hydrochloric, or sulfuric acid corrosion. Adding zirconium to niobium can obviously improve the oxidation resistance and strength of the material. Niobium and niobium zirconium alloy wires are widely used in the manufacture of high pressure sodium lamp and anode leads of electrolytic capacitors. Niobium Tube Technology
- One of the niobium tubes extrusion production method includes the following steps: preparation, a power frequency induction heating (600 + 10˚C), glass powder lubrication, secondary power frequency induction heating (1150 + 10˚C), reaming (reduction of area is not greater than 20.0%), thrid power frequency induction heating (1200 + 10˚C), small deformation, extrusion, extrusion ratio is not more than 10, reduction of area is not greater than 90%) and air cooling technology, finally the hot extrusion process of niobium tubes is finished.
- The niobium seamless tube produced by this method ensures sufficient thermal process plasticity. The disadvantage of niobium fluidity is avoided by means of small deformation extrusion. Performance and dimensions meet user requirements.
Applications
Niobium is a rare, soft, malleable, ductile, gray-white metal. It has a body-centered cubic crystalline structure and in its physical and chemical properties, it resembles tantalum. It must be placed in a protective atmosphere when processed at even moderate temperatures because it tends to react with oxygen, carbon, halogens, nitrogen, and sulfur. The metal is inert to acids, even to aqua regia at room temperatures, but is attacked by hot, concentrated acids, and especially by alkalis and oxidizing agents.
